About Us
Avonmore House is a Failte Ireland approved, Four Star, Bed and Breakfast in Youghal of superior quality. Translated to “house on the large river”, Avonmore House was built in 1752 and was one of the first houses built outside the town wall of Youghal. Owned by the Earls of Cork, the title of the house passed to the Duke of Devonshire in 1826, eventually entering into private hands since 1846.
Located at the entrance to Youghal Harbour, Avonmore House is set in a Georgian House, on the grounds of a former Franciscan Abbey. We are situated just off a 5 mile sandy beach and less than 3 minutes’ walk from town centre. All our rooms come with a mini fridge, WiFi access, smart TV (30+ channels) and tea and coffee making facilities.
We moved into the property in the Spring of 2019 where we commenced extensive renovations. This eventually led us to providing a special quality service while gaining recognition by many leading travel guides.
John Bailey
After working worldwide for over 30 years as a Hydrographic Surveyor, I changed direction and signed up to the world renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School in East Cork. This eventually led to me gaining a chef certification.
Without resting on my laurels, I’m constantly listening and learning which all contributes to the ever evolving menu. In the kitchen by the crack of dawn, I bake three types of bread followed by the breakfast preparation. My aim is to tease the taste buds while catering for all dietary needs at our delightful Bed and Breakfast in Youghal.
Mary O’Regan
After a long career in nursing I qualified as a Naturopathic Nutritionist in 2010. The combination of my knowledge and love for organic food cemented our decision to enter the hospitality industry. In addition to the everyday workings of the B&B, I have been instrumental in finalising our ingredients for the breakfast menu.
I remain in the constant pursuit of providing our guests with quality and the best and healthiest options available. In addition, I organised the installation of our “Reverse Osmosis ” water purification system which extracts fluoride, chlorine, etc. This is used in all our food preparation and beverages as well as the bottled water offered to guests.
